Dialogue

MAMAN

Methinks our garments are now as fresh

As when we put them on first in Afric

At the marriage of the king's fair daughter to the King of Tunis.

MARIE

'Twas a sweet marriage,

And we prosper well in our return.

MAMAN

Tunis was never graced before with such a paragon to their queen.

Not since widow Dido's time.

MARIE

Widow!

A pox on that!

How came that widow in?
Widow Dido!

MAMAN

What if I said Widower Aeneas too?

MARIE

She was of Carthage.

Not of Tunis.

MAMAN

This Tunis was Carthage.

MARIE

Carthage?

MAMAN

I assure you: Carthage.
